My Projects:

The new site is up. Thanks to ‘Ultra Cool Mom’ for doing the work for us. The individual bios are done, and a band history will be posted soon (about three sentences unless Dimitri comes up with some yucks!) Plus links to pictures from the old pages, pics from the backyard, and a song list. There is new info being added all the time. Email for feedback and song suggestions is coming soon too.

Please check it out!

You always remember your first… this was the first demo completed in the Basement. Paynes Hollow  is a 4 piece band from the Albany area that can rock! The music is heavy, anxious and tight. I’ll bet they’re a great live band too (I’ll find out soon!) This project was a learning experience for all. Thanks to a little operator error, my DAW got a real workout. You can hear an early premix in the flash intro of their website. It looks like the demo will be released soon so check the site for details.

http://www.theflock.com/

The flock is a Christian group that  has been playing original music and updated hymns since 1995. Now they are in the middle of recording for their debut release. A steady Live Sound client to boot. Visit their site and read about their music and their ministry. There may even be a clip of their work on the MUSIC tab. Keep checking for information about the release of their CD.

Closer To Nowhere

This is a young group I met while doing Live Sound at a flock gig. They had a demo they were handing out (go to the MUSIC tab on their site and click on MEDIA). I gave it a listen and asked if they wanted to do some more tunes here in the Basement. We started some things in October and we’ll see where it lands. I’m looking forward to it.

This is what happens when you leave the door to the studio unlocked.

Bands and Live Sound Clients:

An entertaining band from Upstate NY. I’ve done Live Sound for a few of their shows over the past few years. Go to the site, click on their TOUR link and go see them. It’s fun! Their debut CD, Another Day At School ‘…rocks from start to finish…’. It is available at CDBaby.com, and iTunes to name a few. Their second release, called Recess, is now available at Amazon and CDBaby.  It contains a few tracks that were recorded using the Live Sound rig, and mixed by Mike Grosshandler (a.k.a. Harvey… go to the site) in Katie’s Basement studio.  The latest release Station will be available soon from City Canyon Records! Point your browser to http://www.thevelmas.com/ for details

see above… Mike is the guitarist for The VeLMAs. It has been a real learning experience watching Mike work on the band’s live material. I’ve been able to apply a lot of that knowledge to my other projects with amazing results ( I stole some of his presets… sue me! It’s my studio).  In addition to The VeLMAs, Mike has released two solo acoustic collections. His second solo CD wrote myself  was just released in October 2004. It follows up scales which was released in 2003. Both are available at CDBaby.com, amazon.com, and others. Go to the site for details.

Oh, and Mike also helped me get this website up and running… thanks Harv!

I got to mix Devilish Minds twice last year. Someone made a point to tell me I had a ‘sick mix’ working… I took it as a compliment. It wasn’t hard because the sickness was coming from up front. I told Tony that the first band was pretty loud. He said, “then we’ll be loud too…”. They were! There was a lot of energy on the stage and folks were having a blast. I understand they took some time off and have reformed again. The site has details.

I’ve known these guys… Jeff and Paul were part of Noose. Now they’ve hooked up with this bunch. You know there was no Lynyrd Skynyrd or Marshall Tucker in those bands… well there ain’t no Huge Johnson to be found in this here band either. However they are a fun band that rocks and you can dance the night away. A mighty fine looking site too… check it out.

Studios:

http://www.spirit11.net/

Sean Flynn has been a driving force behind my studio right from the moment he sold me my first ADAT machine. Always positive, ever encouraging… there would still be toys in the basement if it wasn’t for this guy. His studio is located on Saratoga Lake in Upstate NY. Whenever I get over my head, or a project is bigger than the demo studio, Sean’s phone will ring. From demos to CD projects, voiceovers and soundtracks. I highly recommend this studio. Why don’t you give this site a look.

Larry DeVivo says “There is a lot of confusion…”. One thing is for sure, you will want your project mastered. Larry has the premier full service mastering facility in the area. You will enjoy the friendly conversation as he shares experiences from his years in the industry. Click on this link and see what I mean.

 Suppliers:

http://www.parkwaymusic.com/

1602 Rt. 9 here in Clifton Park NY.  518-383-0300. This store keeps getting bigger and bigger without losing that small store vibe. This is the place for vintage and used gear… but bring your checkbook because these heartbreakers sell everything they get! There is tons of new gear from the major brands as well. Guitars, amps, drums, PA, sticks, strings, picks, cords… In house repairs by Dr. Diode. The site has some inventory but I’d take a ride down and see who you bump in to.
