Studio
The Control room was updated in January 2005 to include new DAW
gear. The heart of my studio is a Dell Pentium 4 computer (3.0GMHz/1G). I utilize my trusty Alesis ADAT machines as
A/D converters. The link is a MOTU 2408. Using the Mackie 24 channel 8 Bus board
and a few cables in the patch bay we are ready for a maximum of 24 simultaneous
recording tracks. 2 channels of Behringer outboard mic gear are available to
provide extra control over vocals and delicate instruments. Outboard reverb,
echo and delay units by Delta Lab, Alesis and Yamaha are mounted in the rack.
Monitoring is handled by Tannoy speakers via a Yamaha power amp.
The Dell computer is loaded with the latest version of Adobe
Audition. The interface is a Mackie Control Universal. Tracks are directly
recorded to the program in up to
48K/32Bit resolution. Overdubs and punch-ins are a breeze for the most
inexperienced recordists. This program is an excellent platform for mixing as
well as providing a full compliment of editing options and plug-in effects. For
the analog minded, 24 tracks can be rerouted back to the main Mackie desk for
mixing to tape.
Starting in March 2007, Katie’s Basement Studio introduced
Digidesign’s Pro Tools LE in to the studio. This platform is widely recognized as
the industry standard DAW. We now will be able to offer this option to clients
for overdubs, mixing or exporting sessions from our studio to most any
commercial studio in the world.
